3. Rachele Fico Is Perfect
Saturday, July 20, 2019 was a day that will live on in the history books for the Chicago Bandits. Rachele Fico retired all 21 batters she faced that day to record her first professional perfect game and become the third Bandit in organization history to accomplish the feat.
2. A.J. Andrews Wins Softball’s First Gold Glove
August of 2016 was when Rawlings announced the expansion of the Gold Glove to National Pro Fastpitch. A.J. Andrews, who was a member of the Akron Racers at the time, was announced as the first female winner of the prestigious award at the NPF Awards Ceremony in Tuscaloosa, Ala. prior to the NPF Championship Series.
1. Softball Returns To The Olympic Games
September 4, 2018 was the day softball had been waiting for since 2008. That day, the International Olympic Committee and Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee agreed to add softball and baseball to the 2020 program. Six countries have since qualified for the tournament, including 2008 medalists Japan, U.S.A. and Australia. The Games will begin on July 22, 2020.
