NEC Added To Conferences Suspending Softball

The Northeast Conference (NEC) has suspended its spring sports conference play until at least March 29 due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak, the league announced Thursday.
"This is a prudent measure to ensure the health, safety and wellness of NEC student-athletes, coaches, administrators, fans and media," said NEC Commissioner Noreen Morris in a statement. "We are committed to providing opportunities to compete for our student-athletes, but their health and wellness is our top priority. We will continue to monitor the latest developments on the COVID-19 virus with the well-being of our member institutions and their communities in mind."
The conference is now the eighth Division-I league to have its spring sports impacted by COVID-19. The CAA, Pac-12, SEC, WAC and Conference USA announced they would suspend their spring sports on Thursday, while the Ivy League and Patriot League both canceled their spring seasons outright.
Ten Division-I softball teams compete in the NEC.
