North Alabama

The Lions opened their Division I era with a 1-0 victory over Alabama-Birmingham on Thursday. Megan Garst pitched a complete game. The junior surrendered four hits and struck out five. Junior Hannah Shollenberger was 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Summer Ellyson

No. 13 Louisiana won its season opener 4-0 over Fordham on Thursday. Junior Summer Ellyson was dominant in the circle as she struck out 16 of the 25 batters faced. She carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and struck out seven consecutive after the first two Fordham batters reached base.

She’s no stranger to season-opening dominance as she struck out 20 against Evansville on Feb. 9, 2018.

LSU

LSU put on an offensive clinic Thursday night in a 19-1 five-inning win over Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane scored in the top of the first but the Tigers responded with 12 runs on eight hits in the bottom half.

Michaela Schlattman led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance, five RBIs and two runs scored. Amanda Doyle, Shemiah Sanchez and Shelbi Sunseri each had three RBIs.

The 19 runs was the most runs in a season opener in program history and ties for the most runs scored in the new Tiger Park.

PV College Challenge

Puerto Vallarta was full of action on Thursday with four games on the schedule. No. 11 South Carolina earned a come-from-behind victory of BYU in Game One before dropping 4-1 to No. 24 Baylor.

Baylor followed up their upset victory with a 4-3 loss to BYU and Duke defeated conference foe Notre Dame 7-3 to close out the night.

Bubba Nickles

The first Bubba bomb of the season came against UT-Arlington on Thursday morning. The junior outfielder finished the day 4-for-6 with a home run and three RBIs.
