MLB Announces Jennie Finch Empowerment Award

Major League Baseball announced the inaugural Jennie Finch Empowerment Award on Wednesday, April 24.

The new award presented by ARM & HAMMER is named for MLB’s youth softball ambassador and will be awarded to young female athletes who demonstrate powerful characteristics such as leadership, motivation, commitment, humility and integrity.

The four winners will represent one of the four MLB softball-based events: Softball Breakthrough Series, Jennie Finch All-Star Classic, Elite Development Invitational and the RBI World Series. The winners will be selected by an MLB-led panel and Finch.

Each of the winners will also receive a trip to the World Series, accompanied by Finch, and will be recognized during an on-field pregame ceremony.

“Find your gift, find your strengths,” Finch said during an interview with MLB Network. “We’re in a world of comparison – looking at what people have and comparing what we don’t have. Instead, find your gift, your strength and then go be the best you can be. Don’t compare. Just be your best.”
