Mexico Earns Olympic Berth

Mexico is headed to the Olympics for the first time ever in softball.
With a 2-1 win over Canada at the WBSC Softball Americas Qualifier on Saturday afternoon, Mexico punched the first of two tickets to Tokyo from Surrey, B.C.
Suzy Brookshire Gonzales (San Jose State) drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth and Nicole Mendes singled in the go-ahead run.
Dallas Escobedo got the complete-game win by striking out eight, allowing three hits and one run in the contest.
The second berth is between Canada and Brazil. If Brazil loses to Puerto Rico on Saturday night, Canada will earn the berth. If Brazil beats Puerto Rico, then the game between Brazil and Canada on Sunday afternoon will determine the second berth.
