College Softball's Top Third Basemen Entering 2021

The hot corner. It is a place on the softball field that gets a ton of action. Whether it comes to being in the right spot to field a bunt, or reacting swiftly to a screaming line drive, third base is one of the most important positions on the diamond.
As we look ahead to the 2021 college softball season, we at Softball America are taking some time to examine a handful of the top college players at each position on the field.
See below for three of the best third basemen in the college game today.
Sydney Pennington
Senior, Oklahoma State
Pennington is an absolute powerhouse for Oklahoma State at the hot corner. She posted a fielding percentage of .952 with only two errors during the shortened 2020 season. The senior should continue to be a consistent force in the Cowgirls' infield, and with her bat, as she has been throughout her entire career.
Charla Echols
Junior, Florida
Echols was one of the best third basemen in college softball in 2020. She had a .962 fielding percentage with only three errors during the abbreviated 2020 campaign. The Michigan State transfer is expected to lead the Gators at the hot corner this spring.
Malia Martinez
Redshirt Senior, Arizona
Martinez does not get enough credit for her play. Her teammates call her "superstar" because she shines for the Wildcats, even though she does not always get the recognition she deserves. In 2020, Martinez had a .945 fielding percentage, with only three errors. However, it's the athleticism Martinez possesses and her ability to make difficult plays look easy that makes her a third baseman to watch in 2021.
