The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) announced Thursday that the conference will suspend its spring sports, including softball, until further notice due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak.

"The decision was made after discussions with the conference’s administrative personnel," the CAA announced in a statement. "Our top priority remains the well-being and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, administrators and fans. The conference will continue to diligently assess this matter."

The CAA, which also canceled the remainder of its women's basketball tournament on Thursday, becomes the third Division-I conference to announce such measures related to spring sports. The Ivy League announced its decision to cancel its spring sports season on Wednesday, while the Patriot League followed suit Thursday morning.

The CAA, which possesses eight Division-I softball teams, added that it will provide additional details regarding the spring sports season and its championships at a later date.
